Why live in defeat?

Does this sound like your life?

  • You know that you are saved but lately do not "feel" like a Christian?
  • You find yourselves living under the power of the flesh or old man?
  • You have besetting sin in your life and sin is reigning over you?
  • You live in shame over secret sin?

  • The harder you try to do right the more you seem to fail?
  • Because you fail over and over again you question whether you are saved?
  • You feel that your flesh is so strong that you have no choice but to sin?
  • You struggle to pray?
  • The roller coaster you are on makes you question God's care and love for you?

THE ANSWER

I - It starts with being saved

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jesus died on the cross FOR our sins. He took our sins upon Himself. His sacrifice satisfies the Father's wrath for sin and through His blood we have redemption.

Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

The blood of Jesus also allows us to have a clear conscience. When we repent, we have confidence that the blood of Christ satisfies God. We do not have to beat ourselves up or live in guilt.

Heb 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

II - Understanding the dual nature

When we got saved our old nature did not go away; it is still there. God's Spirit has moved in making us a new creature. There will be a battle between these two natures.

Ga 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary the one to the other; that ye may not do the things that ye would.

There is going to be a battle between the old and name but good news is.........

III - Know the Old Man has been defeated

Ro 6:3-4  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

When Jesus died on the cross we died with him. The Old Man died and was buried with  him. HE IS ALREADY DEFEATED. When this life is over the Old Man will cease to exist any longer.

When Jesus rose from the dead the New Man rose with Him. The Old Man is temporal but the New Man is eternal. The NEW MAN gives us the power to live the Christian life.
